The Cucamonga Valley, located in San Bernardino County about 45 miles east of Los Angeles, has only about 1000 acres of vines — down from 35000 acres in the 1940s. Lopez Vineyard was planted in 1918 and is now surrounded by interstate highways (thus the hints of tar and oil!). Bright pomegranate-wild cherry fruit, brown sugary-caramel oak and fragrant Asian spices.
